Fall is finally here in Chantilly, VA, and before you know it, the leaves will fall and the chilly weather will come around. This time of year is not only the perfect time to sip on pumpkin spice lattes and go to football tailgates, but it is the perfect time to prep your car for the cooler weather. Here is how we can help you at Foreign Auto Services Inc.
Tip #1 - Check Your Tires
Tires are one of the most important components of your car, and it requires the most attention when it gets cooler. First off, remember to check the tread depth. Make sure that they aren’t bald or uneven in certain areas over others. Next, you’ll want to monitor and adjust your tire pressure. Tire pressure drops when the temperatures drop, so make sure you fill them up to the automaker’s recommended PSI range.
Tip #2 - Inspect the Battery
Your battery connections should be free of corrosion or other harmful contaminants. Extreme temperatures can be harsh on your battery, draining it quicker. Additionally, test your battery to see if it can hold a proper charge. If not, you may need to replace it before the winter comes around.
Tip #3 - Replace Wiper Blades
Your wiper blades should not be damaged or leave streaks on the windshield. You’ll need to replace them if they aren’t effective enough at clearing the rain off the windshield. Generally, industry experts recommend replacing wiper blades every six to twelve months. Furthermore, make sure you’re topped off on wiper fluid.
Tip #4 - Test Your Heater
Of course, colder weather means transitioning from air conditioning to heaters. We recommend running them early on to test if they actually work. While you’re checking to see if your vents are blowing out warm air, test the defrosters too. Both are immensely important in the fall and winter.
Tip #5 - Replace Brake Parts
All it takes is a brake inspection to save you and others’ lives. Brakes require some of the most maintenance when it comes to your car. If their parts have gone bad, you will need to replace them ASAP. We can also check your brake fluid at Foreign Auto Services Inc. too.
